Faces of City – a multimedia production

Peggy Sylopp and Silke Tinsner

music Giovanni Longo

Two performers from Berlin - video performer Peggy Sylopp and actor Silke Tinsner - sketch a portrait of Berlin stressing today´s moments of change in the formerly divided city. The fall of the inner city frontier, the fall of the wall, created a situation of tolerance and dialogue, yet released the potential for the aggression and depression that frequently accompany the expectation of a new orientation.

The situation is comparable to the individual experience of submitting to the departure from the untenable, while this necessary, inevitable step into the unknown offers growing possibility. The performance deals with the contrast of historical and individual changes in our lives.

About its compositon:

The scenes of the video are prerecorded, cut into short clips, and in free series seamlessly recombinable. The continuity, duration and contingency of scratching of the individual clips is controlled during the performance in realtime by Sylopp. This enables a high interference with the action on the stage.

The projection shows Tinsner in different character, but interacts with her on-stage performance. At the beginning there is a distance somehow separating them them; along the way, moments of spontaneous sightcontact between them, developing as they become closer and closer, until the end when the barrier is completely lifted, and they´re in direct contact -having melted into the same person.
